Flora Valley

BOOK TWO

You’re So Vine

Ava Durant is fast-moving, plain talking, and five foot four. Mid-year, she quit her job and came home to Northern California because her dad fell ill. He recovered, but Ava’s still living at her parents, unable to shake the crushing exhaustion she’s been trying to keep secret. What’s also on her mind is that she’s fallen for Cam Hollander, the six foot five, man-of-few-words who makes the barrels for Flora Valley, the winery co-owned by Ava’s big brother, Nate, and his fiancée, Shelby.

Cam Hollander enlisted in the US army at age 18 and was invalided out in his seventh year of serving in Afghanistan. The Cam that emerged from hospital was not the same bone-headed kid convinced he was bullet-proof. Post-army Cam had lost all his sense of purpose and self-worth, and if it hadn’t been for Shelby’s parents, the late Billy Armstrong and his beautiful wife, Lee, giving Cam a chance at a new start ten years back, he’s not sure what would have become of him.

It’s clear that Cam and Ava have strong feelings for each other. But if Ava is chronically ill, there’s no way she will let herself be a burden to Cam. Cam has shied away from commitment, and now he’s not sure he has what it takes to be the partner Ava deserves.

And what about Lee Armstrong? Cam knows he still relies too much on Lee to pick him up when he’s down. And though Ava trusts Cam, there are times when she feels like he’s shutting her out, preferring to confide in his old friend rather than his new lover.
